ZONE 0
Is the interior of the bath tub or shower tray. We do not supply lighting for this zone.
ZONE 1
This is the area directly above the bath or shower tray to a height of 2.25M above the floor. A minimum of IPX4 (splash proof) is required for normal domestic use.
ZONE 2
This is the area over the bath tub or shower tray above Zone 1. This is the area external to zone 1 and extends vertically 0.6m external to zone 1 to a height of 2.25M. Protection required is the same as zone1.
ZONE 3
This the area shown above Zone 2 in the illustration above. This is the area external to zone 2 to a distance of 2.4M from Zone 2 and a height above the floor of 2.25M. The protection required for normal domestic use is IP20. The above does not apply to communal baths and showers where jets of water are used for cleaning purposes.
IP RATING EXPLAINED
The IP (Ingress Protection) standard is a system for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment. e.g A bathroom light fitting rated IP65 means that: It is totally protected against dust and gives protection against water jets and water projected by a nozzle from any direction. Please use the table below to help you further.
FIRST NUMERAL
Protection against human access or solid objects
0 - No protection
1 - Protected against solid objects with a diameter of 50mm and over (e.g. accidental insertion of hands
2 - Protected against solid objects over 12mm (e.g. jointed fingers)
3 - Protected against solid objects over 2.5mm (tools)
4 - Protected against solid objects over 1mm (small wires)
5 - Protected against dust - limited ingress permitted (no harmful deposit)
6 - Totally protected against dust
SECOND NUMERAL
Protection against harmful ingress of liquids
0 - No protection
1 - Protected against drops of condensed water. Drops of condensed water falling on the enclosure shall have no harmful effect.

3 - Protection against rain. Water falling in rain at an angle equal or smaller than 60 degrees with respect to the vertical shall have no harmful effect.
4 - Protection against splashing. Liquid splashed from any direction shall have no harmful effect.
